Bachgen in the Glo by Sarah Bolton-Gabrielsen

bachgen in the glo
Sarah Bolton-Gabrielsen

Trapper boy!
Let the horse through
quick quick quick on your hooves
or your heartbeat but
not

Too fast!
Or your lungs won’t work.
You can’t masticate chemicals.
boy

Instead, chew your candlestick
quick quick!
Like the rhymes you were robbed of
at your mother’s breast heaving
with blackdamp.

Grab your Davy lamp
blow it out
breathe the
darkness
that hides your hand.

Trapper boy
be quick
grip
candlestick
and flee the swollen floor
to the door
hoarse
on its hinges
horse
unhinged
in the pressurized pitch black
black
black in the eleventh hour
of eternity.

Quick quickly boy black

black.

Trapped.

What an apt
name

Sarah loves cats, knitting, and her wife. She particularly enjoys procrastinating on her writing craft. Procraftinating, if you will.
